Most facilities on Clipboard Health require that you use NFC time clock posters to clock in and out so that they can confirm you're inside their building when you start and end your shift. This helps us ensure fast and accurate pay!
NFC Time Clocks are 10x15" posters that are embedded with NFC (near field communication) tags that are specific to the facility you are working at. NFC is the same technology that powers Apple Pay or Google Pay.
How to clock in/out with NFC time clock posters
Please watch the following video to learn how to use NFC time clocks
Steps to clock in/out using NFC time clock posters:
-
Locate the NFC time clock poster(s)
- Navigate to "My shifts" by tapping on the bottom menu
- Tap on the shift that you are currently working
- Scroll down. You should see a section titled "This facility uses Clipboard Health NFC time clocks" with details on the locations of the NFC poster(s) at the facility.
- Find one of the posters.
- If you are still having trouble locating the NFC time clock poster(s), please ask for help from a facility staff member
- Once you've found a poster, tap the "Clock in" button (or out)
- Tap "Begin scan"
- IMPORTANT FOR ANDROID USERS: you MUST tap "Begin scan" before attempting to scan. Otherwise you may encounter an error.
- Scan the NFC tag on the poster
- For iPhone users: hold the TOP of your phone within ~1 centimeter of the colored rectangle on the poster
- For Android users: hold the BACK CENTER of your phone within ~1 centimeter of the colored rectangle on the poster
- Boom! You should have clocked in/out successfully!
If you keep on running into issues, please refer to the steps below
What should I do if I get repeated errors trying to scan the NFC time clock poster?
If you're having problems scanning in with Clipboard Health NFC time clock posters, follow these debugging steps:
- Are you repeatedly getting an "Incorrect poster" error?
- This almost always means that you are scanning the WRONG NFC poster for your shift. This usually happens when the facility where you are working has multiple wings, each with their own NFC time clock, and you are scanning the wrong one.
- If you're seeing this error, you must find the correct NFC poster. The locations of the correct poster(s) should be under "shift instructions" (see video above). If you're still having trouble locating the correct NFC poster, please ask a facility staff member
- Are you repeatedly getting an "NFC is disabled on your device" error?
- This means you are using an Android that has NFC disabled.
- To enable NFC, go to your device settings and search "NFC". You should see a toggle to turn NFC on. Please turn on NFC and try scanning the poster again.
-
Use proper scan technique
- Watch the video above to see proper technique
- Make sure you are holding your phone within 1 centimeter of the NFC tags in the colored rectangle on the poster. Oftentimes, folks will hold their phones too far away.
- Make sure you're holding the correct part of your phone:
- For iPhone users: hold the TOP of your phone within ~1 centimeter of the colored rectangle on the poster
- For Android users: hold the BACK CENTER of your phone within ~1 centimeter of the colored rectangle on the poster
-
Does Apple Pay / Google Pay not work on your smartphone?
- If so, this means that the NFC antenna on your phone is damaged. This can happen if you drop your phone—oftentimes, your phone will still be working but NFC functionality will be broken.
- Unfortunately the only solution in this case is to a.) submit a paper timesheet for your current shift and b.) get a new device so you do not run into problems with NFC time clock posters for future shifts.
What happens if I cannot scan NFC to clock in/out?
If you repeatedly scan NFC to clock in or out, and none of the debugging steps above helped, you will need to submit a paper timesheet to get paid. Please refer to our guide on submitting paper timesheets here. Note that any payment from paper timesheets may take up to two business days to process.
