At Clipboard Health, we want to ensure all professionals adequately rest between the shifts they book on the Clipboard Health marketplace. Our goal is to improve lives, and one way we can do this is by keeping professionals’ health and safety top of mind.
What a respite period?
A respite period is the time of rest before starting a new shift, such as 8 hours or 12 hours. When booking shifts on the marketplace, Clipboard Health advises taking a minimum of 7 continuous hours of respite within a 24-hour period. Professionals cannot book more than two 8-hour shifts consecutively, as this qualifies as hazardous working hours.
What are some examples of hazardous working hours?
- Completing two 10-hour shifts back-to-back. Any continuous shift longer than 17 hours is defined as hazardous.
- Completing a 12-hour shift, resting for 4 hours then completing an 8-hour shift. Taking a respite period of less than 7 hours in a 24-hour period is defined as hazardous.

Please note that some facilities may limit the visibility of shifts that exceed a certain number of booked consecutive hours or total hours in a week. If you notice a decline in available shifts in your area, you can request a Shift Invite directly from the facility.
