Understanding Paid Sick and Safe Time (PSST) for Seattle
Under a new law that went into effect on January 13th, 2024, professionals will accrue one day of PSST for every thirty days of shifts booked and verified at a facility within the city limits of Seattle, Washington through the Clipboard Health marketplace. How do I know how much PSST I have accrued, and how can I use it?
To obtain your total time accrued or to apply PSST to a particular day, reach out to our Support team through the Clipboard Health app in the Help Center. Click “Start a Chat” and type “Sick Leave” as the reason for contact. We will answer your questions, check your eligibility, and apply PSST for you, if eligible. If you book shifts in Seattle, you will also receive a monthly email that notifies you of your total accrued PSST.
What can I use PSST for?

You can use paid sick time for the following reasons:

- For a personal mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition.
- For medical diagnosis, care, or treatment of a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; or your need for preventive medical care.
- For the care of a family member with a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; care of a family member who needs medical diagnosis, care, or treatment of a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; or care of a family member who needs preventive medical care.

You can use paid safe time for the following reasons:

- When Clipboard Health has suspended or otherwise discontinued operations by order of a public official, for any health-related reason, to limit exposure to an infectious agent, biological toxin, or hazardous material;
- When Clipboard Health has reduced, suspended, or otherwise discontinued operations for any health- or safety-related reason;
- When your family member's school or place of care has been closed; and

For any of the following reasons related to domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking:
- To enable you to seek legal or law enforcement assistance or remedies to ensure the health and safety of your or your family or household members, including but not limited to, preparing for, or participating in, any civil or criminal legal proceeding related to or derived from domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking;
- To enable you to seek treatment by a health care provider for physical or mental injuries caused by domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, or to attend to health care treatment for a victim who is your family or household member;
- To enable you to obtain, or assist a family or household member in obtaining, services from a domestic violence shelter, rape crisis center, or other social services program for relief from domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking;
- To enable you to obtain, or assist a family or household member in obtaining, mental health counseling related to an incident of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, in which you or your family or household member was a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking; or
- To enable you to participate in safety planning, temporarily or permanently relocate, or take other actions to increase the safety of you or your family or household members from future domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking.

Do I need to live in Seattle to be eligible for PSST?
No, however you will only accrue PSST by working at facilities located in Seattle, Washington.
Does my accrued PSST transfer from year to year, or does it expire?
You can carry-over a maximum of 9 days of unused PSST to the next year.
If I am denied the use of PSST, what can I do?
You should reach out to Support to discuss the issue. We will respond within 24-72 hours.
What if I have a shift booked on a day I would like to take PSST?
If you have sufficient PSST accruals when you request PSST, you will not incur penalties for canceling a shift. If eligible, we will remove your original shift and replace it with PSST, which you will be able to see in the app.
Do I have to provide documentation to use PSST?
You only need to provide documentation when you use more than three consecutive days of PSST.
