What is Block Booking?
A feature that you can use to book a single professional for a block of shifts.
How does it work?
Click on "Post a block of shifts" from your desktop Calendar page > select the slot type/start and end time for the block > select how many shifts you want to post within the block > post the block.
This block gets posted to available Favorites (highly rated and "hearted" professionals) first, for a maximum of 6 hours. If the block is not booked during that period, then it will get posted to the rest of the marketplace. If you do not have any Favorites or if all of your Favorites are unavailable for that block, the block gets posted to other available professionals.
The entirety of the block has to be booked by a single professional.
Here is a short demo on how to post a block of shifts:
Will my blocks get filled?
Yes! Blocks have the same fill rate as per diem shifts. The only difference is that they may take longer to fill - about 1 to 2 days max.
Professionals are interested in blocks, with their top choice for length of block being 4 weeks.
Do you charge more for blocks?
Nope! We do not charge block shifts more or less than per diem shifts.
Do blocks have to get posted on consecutive dates?
They do not. You pick whatever dates you want for your block. To maximize fill, it's best to have a break (at least a day or two) within every 7 day cycle of shifts.
Who can book a block of shifts?
Any enrolled healthcare professional who has all of the necessary, approved requirements to view and book the block of shifts.
Will the block go to my Favorites first?
There is a toggle on the blocks creation dialog that lets you determine if you wish the block to go to your Favorites first. This is off by default but can be turned on at any time. If this is enabled, the block will go to your Favorites for a maximum of 6 hours before getting posted to the rest of the marketplace.
Can I invite a specific professional to a block of shifts?
No. Blocks go to your Favorites first, for a maximum of 6 hours. If none of your Favorites book the block, it will then get posted to all other available professionals.
If you are looking to invite a specific professional to one or more shifts, you should click on the option to "Invite a professional". For more information on how Shift Invites works, head to Shift Invites feature (For Facilities).
Can I edit the rate for a block of shifts?
Not at the block level.
For now, you can edit the rate at the individual shift level once the block is posted. Rate editing is permitted for unfilled shifts and can be done by any user with permissions to edit the charge rate of shifts.

How do I remove or cancel a block of shifts?
Removing/canceling one or some shifts in the block (versus the entire block)
Find the shift by tapping on the calendar date > locate the shift on the right-hand side of the Calendar page > click "Remove shift" or "Cancel shift" (depending on which is your case) which is located at the bottom of the shift card and proceed with the rest of the removal/cancelation flow.
Removing/canceling all future shifts in the block
Click on the calendar date for one of the shifts in the block > locate one of the shifts in the block on the right-hand side of the Calendar page > click on the "View all shifts in block" text button on the shift card > click on the three vertical dots at the top of the trigger blocks popup > click on "Remove block"/"Cancel block" and proceed with the rest of the removal/cancelation flow.
Here is a demo on how to remove/cancel one or more shifts in a block:
If my block gets cancelled by a professional, will the shifts get reposted?
Any shifts within a cancelled or unassigned block starting in less than 72 hours will be reposted as individual, per diem shifts. We do this so that we can maximize fill. Given the shorter notice period, we think it's more likely you'll be able to fill these shifts if they're posted individually vs as part of a larger block.
Any shifts within a cancelled or unassigned block starting in more than 72 hours will be reposted as a single block, so long as there is more than 1 shift that fits this criteria (a block needs to have at least 2 shifts to qualify as such).
What if my block doesn't get filled by the time the block is due to start?
If a posted block is unfilled and the first shift in that block has passed, we will update the block so that it only shows all future shifts in the block.
Say you posted a block of 10 shifts, 2 of which start before Apr 23rd (the rest start on or after that date). By Apr 23rd, if the block is not filled, we'll still keep the block posted to the marketplace, only it will now be a block of 8 shifts rather than 10.
Can I add more shifts to the block?
If the block is already filled and you want to invite the professional to more shifts you can also do so by clicking on the "Invite a professional" option in the Calendar page. More info on how Shift Invites works can be found here.
If the block is not filled and you want to add more shifts to it for a single professional to book, please reach out to us with your request via here form, or by calling us at 408-837-0116. Please state the start and end date, start and end time and total shifts in the block and which shifts you'd like to add to it. Alternatively, you can remove the unfilled shift and post a new one that reflects your updated needs.
