What are Shift Invites?
Shift Invites is a feature in the Clipboard Health platform that allows you to invite a specific professional to work a shift. Shift Invites is available on desktop and mobile.
- Shift Invites feature for desktop now allows for multiple shifts to be included per invite!
- Shift Invites feature for mobile is available on version 2.33.0 or above. If you are not seeing this feature, please check and try updating. If still having issues, reach out to support.
When you send an invite, that shift is only available to the invited professional. When creating the invite, you will see the option to post the shift for open pickup (starting with your favorites) if the invited professional declines or doesn’t respond quickly enough.
When a shift invite is sent, it will only be available for a limited time before it expires. This is to maximize the chances of getting your shift booked. You can see when the Shift Invite expires on the pending invite.

Note: "Favorites" have been replaced by A-Team in the Salt Lake City, and Provo markets.
If you’re in these markets, and you select to have your shift reposted for open pickup when a professional declines your invitation (or when the invite expires), your shift will be reposted to your A-Team first (instead of Favorites) followed by other professionals on the marketplace. Can I invite a professional to multiple shifts?
Yes! From the desktop app, you can send as many shifts in one invite to a professional as you want. You will have the option to select whichever dates and times you would like, and then review the list of shifts to confirm all the ones you want to send.
From the mobile app, you can send as many invites as you want, but you will need to send a new invitation for each shift you want filled.
Who can I invite to shifts?
You can invite any professional who has a Clipboard Health account. This includes professionals who are currently restricted, or who have never completed a shift at your facility before.
Will an accepted invite post and book a new shift?
Yes, if an invite is accepted, a new shift will be added to your calendar, and the professional will be assigned. Any cancellations made on an invite after it is accepted are subject to the cancellation fees outlined in your contract.
Can professionals negotiate rates on a Shift Invite? What am I charged for a shift invite?
No, rate negotiations are not available for Shift Invites. Charges for shift invitations are the same as any other shift you might post to the marketplace.
If you'd like to boost the pay for a shift invite, you can do so using the Custom Rates field in the shift invite window.
What happens if a professional declines or doesn’t respond to my invitation?
When setting up your Shift Invite, you’ll see a checkbox that lets you decide what happens if the professional doesn't accept your invite, or doesn't respond before it expires:
- If you check this box, we will open the shift to your Favorites, followed by other professionals on the marketplace.
- If you leave the box unchecked, the shift invite will be closed and a shift will not be posted to the marketplace.
How do I create an invite?
Desktop
To create an invite from the desktop app, start by making sure you are on the correct calendar tab for the worker type of the professional you wish to invite (CNA, LVN, etc). Click the "Invite Professional" button, and a pop-up modal will appear.
Search for and select the professional.
Select the day(s) and time(s) of the shift(s)

Review the list of invites, and send them to the Professional!
Mobile
You can send a Shift Invite, for one shift per invite, using the Chat feature through the mobile app. Once you've selected Chat and opened the chat with the professional's name, click Invite Professional in the top left corner of the Chat window. Using the Chat option allows you to message the professional and coordinate as needed.

Follow the steps below to send a shift invite from the mobile app via the chat window to the professional:
- Log in to the facility mobile app.
- Click on Chat at the bottom of the app.
- Once the Chat is open, select the professional's name you would like to send a shift invite to.
- In the top right corner, you will see an invite button; click on the invite button.
- A pop-up window will appear where you can select the worker type, shift date(s), shift type(s), and shift times.
- Once you complete the above information, you have the option to post an open shift if the professional declines the invite or the time runs out for the shift invite.
- Click on Send Invite at the bottom right of the chat.
- Once the shift invite has been sent you will receive a confirmation message from Clipboard Health in the chat.
- You can see the shift invite on the calendar view for the date the invite was sent. It will appear as pending, and once the professional accepts the invite, their name will appear on the calendar for a booked shift.

How do I cancel an invite I already sent to a professional?
You will see invitations that are awaiting a response on your calendar, with an option to remove the invitation. You can also cancel via the chat window for that professional. After a professional accepts the invitation, the shift will appear just like any other filled shift on your calendar.
