When you pick up a shift using the Clipboard Health app, please make sure you check and follow the facility's policy on breaks. Most facilities require that professionals take a mandatory unpaid 30-minute break for shifts longer than six hours. Rules and policies may vary by facility and you should be prepared to follow these policies when you book and work shifts.
If you've accidentally clocked out before completing your, please follow the “Accidental clock out” instructions in this article.
How do I see a facility's policy on unpaid breaks?
You can check a facility’s break policy by navigating to the facility profile page and scrolling down to the “Mandatory breaks” section.
We'll also show the facility policy in other cases:
- If you book a shift at a facility that requires a mandatory 30-min break for shifts over six hours long, we'll inform you twice about that policy: once when you book your first shift with that facility and once again when you clock in for that shift.
- If the break policy changes at a facility after you have already booked a shift at that facility, we'll inform you the next time you book one of their shifts.
Managing your breaks
For shifts worked longer than 6 hours, a 30-minute unpaid break is automatically added to your timesheet after you clock out. If you need to shorten the length of your break, you can edit your break times in your timesheet after you clock out, which will then submit Worked Break Payment Request (see below)
Worked Break Payment Requests
If you worked through a mandatory unpaid 30-minute break, you can request to be compensated for this time by submitting a Worked Break Payment Request. Note that when working a shift through Clipboard Health, you should follow the facility's break policy.
To complete the Worked Break Payment Request you’ll need to provide an explanation for the incomplete break. Your request will be submitted with your timesheet after it has been signed, at which point the facility will have three business days to accept or decline your request. You will be notified of the facility’s decision as soon as they review your request.
- Shift payments and Worked Break Payments are processed separately. If your shift qualifies for InstantPay, you'll receive payment for the regular hours worked immediately.
- Worked Break Payment Requests will need to be verified by the facility, which can take up to three business days to process.
- If the facility confirms that you indeed worked through a break, you'll receive an additional payment for the worked-through break time.
- Should the facility decline the request, we'll notify you with an email.
If I submit a Worked Break Payment Request, will my shift pay be affected or delayed?
No, you'll still receive InstantPay for the regular shift hours immediately, as long as your shift is eligible for InstantPay. If you request a Worked Break Payment Request, verification of the adjusted break hours will take up to three business days. If the facility approves the request, you'll receive an additional payment for the applicable time worked during your break.
It’s been over three business days since I submitted my Worked Break Payment Request and I haven’t heard back. What should I do?
