What is an Urgent Shift?
An Urgent Shift is a feature that helps reduce the number of unfilled shifts at your workplace. These are shifts that get reposted to Clipboard’s marketplace at premium rates to encourage our large network of workers to book them as soon as possible - at no additional cost to you!
When does an Urgent Shift get posted?
A shift will be reposted as an Urgent Shift if it is a late posting, a cancelled or unassigned worker on short-notice, or if a potential no-call no-show (NCNS) is anticipated. This automatically sends a notification to any available workers in your area, alerting them of the Urgent Shift that is available at a premium rate.
Late posting: If you post a shift that is scheduled to start within 12 hours of posting, we will automatically list it as an Urgent Shift to increase the chances of a worker booking your shift on short-notice.
Late cancels: If the worker who is scheduled to work your shift cancels (or is unassigned) within 0-8 hours of your shift's start-time, we will automatically attempt to find a replacement worker by listing the shift as Urgent.
NCNS prevention: If your scheduled worker does not appear to be moving in the direction of your workplace and is expected to be at least 30 minutes late, they will receive a notification prompting them to confirm their intended arrival. If the worker does not confirm their attendance within 20 minutes, we will automatically attempt to find a replacement worker by making the shift available to other workers in your area as an Urgent Shift.
- If a replacement worker books the shift, the original worker will be removed from your schedule.
- If the original worker confirms their attendance within the 20-minute window, we will remove the Urgent Shift and you can expect your original worker to clock-in as scheduled.
In any of the scenarios above, employees at your facility with the Shift Management or Admin role will receive a notification via email with the name and ETA of the worker who booked the Urgent Shift, as soon as your Urgent Shift is booked.

Request an Urgent shift
In addition to the automated flows above, workplace users can now proactively request an urgent shift via the app when the worker does not arrive or leaves early.
If you would like to learn more, please take a look at this guide about this feature.
Will your account be charged more for Urgent Shifts?
Nope! Clipboard Health offers these Urgent Shifts to workers at premium rates without passing the additional cost to you, ensuring your charges stay the same.
What if the worker who arrives is not who you were expecting?
If the worker who was originally scheduled did not arrive, but a new Clipboard Health worker has arrived, you can check in your Clipboard Health Web or Mobile app to see who this new, replacement worker is. All updates will be sent via email to employees that are assigned the Shift Management role at your facility to ensure that you are always informed.
What if both the scheduled worker and the replacement worker show up?
If we post an Urgent Shift as NCNS prevention, and both the scheduled worker and the worker who booked the Urgent Shift arrive at your workplace, you may send either of the workers home without getting charged a late cancellation or sent home fee. If you would like both workers to stay for the shift, you will be charged for the additional worker accordingly.
