What is an Urgent Shift?
An Urgent Shift is a feature that helps reduce the number of unfilled shifts at your facility. These shifts are posted on Clipboard’s marketplace for independent professionals to book at premium rates, encouraging prompt booking without any additional cost to you!
When is an Urgent Shift created?
A shift will be automatically reposted as an Urgent Shift if a professional cancels a shift on short notice, if a shift is removed from a professional's calendar on short notice, or if a potential NS is anticipated. This automatically sends a notification to all available professionals qualified for the shift in your area, alerting them of the Urgent Shift that is available at a premium rate.
Late cancels: If the professional who is scheduled to work your shift cancels (or the shift is otherwise removed from their calendar) within 0-8 hours before or 0-2 hours after the shift's start time, the shift will automatically be reposted on the marketplace as an Urgent Shift.
NS prevention: If the scheduled professional does not appear to be moving in the direction of your facility and is expected to be at least 30 minutes late, they will receive a notification prompting them to confirm their intended arrival. If the professional does not confirm their attendance within 20 minutes, we will automatically repost the shift on the marketplace as an Urgent Shift.
- If a different professional books the shift, the originally scheduled professional will be removed from your facility's schedule.
- If the original professional confirms their attendance within the 20-minute window, we will remove the Urgent Shift and you can expect your original professional to clock-in as scheduled.
In any of the scenarios above, authorized personnel at your facility with the Shift Management or Admin role will receive a notification via email with the name and ETA of the professional who booked the Urgent Shift, as soon as your Urgent Shift is booked.

Request an Urgent shift
In addition to the automated flows above, facility users can now proactively request an urgent shift via the app when the professional does not arrive or leaves early. To post an Urgent Shift, when a professional does not arrive as scheduled, request an Urgent Shift via the "Worker no show" option.

Will your account be charged more for Urgent Shifts?
Nope! Clipboard Health offers these Urgent Shifts to professionals at premium rates without passing the additional cost to you, ensuring your charges stay the same.
What if the professional who arrives is not who you were expecting?
If the professional who was originally scheduled did not arrive, but a new professional who booked the shift using the Clipboard Health marketplace has arrived, you can check in your Clipboard Health web or mobile app to see who this replacement professional is. All updates will be sent via email to employees that are assigned the Shift Management role at your facility to ensure that you are always informed.
What if both the scheduled professional and the professional who booked the Urgent Shift show up?
If we post an Urgent Shift as NS prevention, and both the scheduled professional and the professional who booked the Urgent Shift arrive at your facility, you may send either of the professionals home without getting charged a late cancellation or sent home fee. If you would like both professionals to stay for the shift, you will be charged for the additional professional accordingly.
